-EGA-
The EGA is the official representative body of the European generic pharmaceutical industry which is at the forefront of providing high-quality affordable medicines to millions of Europeans and stimulating competitiveness and innovation in the pharmaceutical sector.
Formed in 1993, the EGA represents generic pharmaceutical companies and their subsidiaries from throughout Europe, either directly or through national associations.

-GENERICS-
A generic medicine is an equivalent of an originator pharmaceutical product. It contains the same active substance as, is "essentially similar" to, and is therefore interchangeable with, the originator product.
A generic medicine is marketed in compliance with international patent law. It is identified either by its internationally approved non-proprietary scientific name (INN) or by its own brand name. Generic medicines are widely used in many EU countries in cost-effective treatment programmes, and are increasingly prescribed by doctors as effective alternatives to higher-priced originator pharmaceutical.
