BERLIN - Spokesman of German MFA said that Turkey`s prospective membership to EU does not require an urgent decision.
Jens Plöttner, vice spokesman for the German MFA, replied to questions at a press conference in Berlin.
"The decision to initiate membership negotiations with Turkey was taken unanimously. This is a large-scale process and it will continue for years," said Plöttner, upon a question on Germany`s view regarding the French president-elect Nicholas Sarkozy`s remarks on Turkey`s membership.
"The decision concerning Turkey`s membership (to the EU) will be taken in the upcoming years. Detailed studies will be carried out regarding this process," Plöttner affirmed.
