ANKARA - Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim said he would leave his post as of Tuesday due to a constitutional requirement, ahead of general elections to be renewed on July 22nd.
Yildirim said he had no idea as to whom his successor would be.
"That is Mr. Prime Minister`s call but I am sure he would appoint a fitting name," Yildirim told reporters.
Yildirim also said he remained in office longer than any other transportation minister ever in 68 years.
The Turkish Constitution foresees that ministers of justice, transportation and interior shall resign prior to general elections and that the premier shall appoint independent names to the three posts within five days.
