IZMIR - "We are making preparations to export Turkish raki to the People`s Republic of China," said Egemen Demirtas, CEO of Elda Drinks & Energy Services Corporation, on Monday.
In an exclusive interview with the AA, Demirtas noted that they started production in 2004.
"We currently have three raki brands, namely Efe, Cilingir and Sari Zeybek" he said.
Elda which presently exports raki to 16 countries is aiming to export to 25 countries by the end of 2008. "We have included China among those countries," stressed Demirtas. He underlined that "after China, Elda`s goal is to start exporting raki to African market."
Germany and the U.S. are two countries that Elda exports most of its raki to.
Aside from raki, Elda produces wine under the trade mark "Idol". The company will begin producing vodka, liquor and gin in 2008.
Raki is Turkey`s national drink and is also known as "Lion`s Milk". The best way to enjoy raki is to drink it cold (about 8-10 degrees Celsius) and in a thin, cylindrical glass. One can drink it straight or with water, soda, or mineral water.
