ANKARA - Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said early on Wednesday that Turkey undoubtedly took every step it was taking with hope.
Erdogan, who returned from South Korea to Turkey, told reporters that he had not received any statement about the meeting that was taking place in New York on Cyprus.
Prime Minister Erdogan assured reporters that officials would inform them about any new development or statement.
Erdogan said that he had not spoken to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas the same day.
Asked if he hoped anything from talks, Erdogan said, ''we like making real politics. We undoubtedly take every step we are taking with hope. Nobody can live without any hope and politics can't be made without hope.''
A meeting took place in New York on Tuesday among TRNC, Greek Cypriot and United Nations (U.N.) delegation.
TRNC was represented by TRNC President Rauf Denktas, Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat and Foreign Minister Serdar Denktas.
Greek Cypriot administration delegation included Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos as well as former Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides.
U.N. delegation included Secretary General Kofi Annan, his special envoy to Cyprus Alvaro De Soto and Undersecretary-General Kieran Prendergast.
In case the sides reach compromise, Annan is foreseen to issue a statement and announce that the talks would continue in Cyprus starting as of next week. The talks would be carried out under leadership of De Soto in case the talks continue in Cyprus.
