Constitutional Court Warns Felicity Party

ANKARA - The Constitutional Court made a warning to the Felicity Party as it uses the outlawed Socialist Party's abbreviation of ''SP''.
Making a statement after a meeting of the Constitutional Court judges on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Judge Hasim Kilic said that they had made a decision on the Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Prosecutor's Office's recommendation to warn the Felicity Party.
In accordance with the Political Parties Act, the Felicity Party must fulfil the conditions of the warning within six months. If the party does not fulfil them, Felicity Party officials will be denounced.
Earlier the Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Prosecutor's Office had sent a latter to the Felicity Party, stating that it could not use the abbreviation of ''SP'' as it had been the abbreviation of the outlawed Socialist Party.
However, the Felicity Party had decided that it could use the abbreviation and sent its decision to the Chief Prosecutor's Office.
Later the Chief Prosecutor's Office had recommended the Constitutional Court to warn the Felicity Party.
Article 96 of the Political Parties Act envisages that abbreviation, signs or symbols of an outlawed political party cannot be used by another political party.
