NEW YORK - The meeting among United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, President Rauf Denktas of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos will take place in New York, the United States, at about 23.00 Turkish local time on Tuesday.
President Denktas, who met with Annan's Special Envoy Alvaro de Soto, said that they would held a tripartite meeting.
Replying questions of journalists following his 50-minute meeting with De Soto, President Denktas said that the sides would explain the changes they wanted to be made in the plan.
United Nations Secretary General Annan will hold separate talks with President Denktas and Greek Cypriot leader Papadopoulos prior to the tripartite meeting.
De Soto is expected to attend the meeting.
If a consensus is reached at the meeting, Cyprus negotiations are expected to resume in Lefkosa on February 16, 2004.
Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary General Annan informed the United Nations Security Council on recent developments in Cyprus.
Addressing journalists following the briefing, Annan said that putting a completed peace deal to a referendum on April 21 was a part of the plan.
He noted that if the sides agreed on changes to be made in his plan, he would accept them.
''I would say to the people of Cyprus that they have a historic opportunity to unify their country and enter the European Union together with great economic and social benefits for them,'' Annan said.
Meanwhile, sources said that the TRNC delegation might depart from New York on Wednesday after finalization of the talks.
