Amnesty International Secretary General Says She Will Deal With Individual Human Rights Cases In Istanbul

ISTANBUL - Amnesty International (AI) Secretary General Irene Khan said on Monday that she would deal with individual human rights cases in Istanbul and see the real conditions.
Khan and accompanying delegation visited Human Rights Association (IHD) branch in Istanbul and met with head of the branch Hurriyet Sener and members of the Executive Board.
Following the meeting, Khan told reporters that the AI had got the impression that human rights defenders in Turkey were facing legal pressure, not physical.
Khan said that she had spoken to two or three people related with that issue.
Amendments to laws on human rights would be beneficial for people, Khan stressed.
Khan hoped to get encouraging outcome in his meetings with government officials.
