ANKARA - "The stronger the political stability is, the stronger our economy will be," Turkish State Minister & chief negotiator for EU Ali Babacan said on Monday.
"An unexpected development (statement of the General Staff) occurred on Friday night, but the business world expects that this will come and go without any change of grounds in Turkey. Therefore we will altogether protect our democracy," stated Babacan in a TV program broadcast on private CNN Turk channel.
International points of view on Turkey were negatively affected due to Friday's development, Babacan noted and added that serious economic problems will emerge if Turkey derails from its EU target.
-DECISION OF CONSTITUTIONAL COURT-
The Constitutional Court is an independent organ and its decision is binding, Babacan pointed out.
"We trust our state institution. Turkey is undergoing a big test right now. If it passes this test, Turkey's perception in other countries will be more positive when compared with the perception on Friday night. Turkey will be a tested country and a tested democracy," he commented.
Babacan said that preservation of political stability and a robust democracy are the main determining factors of economy.
"Our region needs a strong Turkey. Developments in our country are monitored closely, so we should take action by taking this fact under consideration," he added.
