ISTANBUL - "The current situation in Turkey is not causing any uneasiness. The process continues within the scope of Constitution," said Guler Sabanci, Executive Board Chairwoman of Sabanci Holding who attended "Power Launch" program at CNBC Europe channel on Monday.
Noting that the Constitutional Court will announce its decision within 48 hours, Sabanci said, "accordingly, Turkey will either hold early general elections within 45 days or early elections will be held within 2-3 months."
Expressing pleasure over the demonstration which was held at Istanbul's Caglayan Square last Sunday, Sabanci said that high participation of women in the demonstration was very positive.
Sabanci said that the demonstration showed that Turkey is a democratic country which has values of Western world. She added that protection of secularism was stressed, and participants assumed an attitude against military intervention during the demonstration.
Expressing her assessments about the current situation in the aspect of business world and economy, Guler said, "there is a short-term fluctuation. It is very natural for us to get affected when liquidity conditions, the condition of U.S. markets and Turkey's integration to these markets are taken into consideration. When this temporary situation ends, everything will be clear. There is no change in Turkey's basic parameters. Our growth expectation for 2007 is 5 percent."
Sabanci said, "companies in Turkey continue to grow. Program with IMF functions and fiscal discipline continues."
Regarding Turkey's EU process, Sabanci said that the membership process should be considered as a part of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk's civilization project.
