ISTANBUL - TRNC President Rauf Denktas left Istanbul on Sunday for New York upon the invitation of U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan.
Upon questions of reporters at the airport, Denktas said that ''we will try to do what is best for our people, this is our mission.''
When a reporter asked ''Kofi Annan will give a briefing about Cyprus tomorrow, can it be considered as a factor of pressure?'' Denktas said that ''I also have concerns, we will see the decision to be taken. We will not accept pressure, nothing can be done by pressure. Things can be achieved if sides reach an agreement.''
Denktas is accompanied by TRNC Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat, TRNC Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Serdar Denktas, TRNC Presidential Undersecretary Ergun Olgun, and TRNC President's adviser of constitution Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Soysal.
