Tuzmen: Our 2004 Year Target In Construction Sector Abroad Is $ 5 Billion

ANKARA - State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said on Sunday that the target of the construction sector abroad in 2004 was 5 billion dollars.
Speaking to A.A correspondent, Tuzmen said that the government attributed special importance to the projects of the construction sector abroad this year. Tuzmen stressed that the sector would be on the rise in 2004.
Tuzmen stated that the sector signed contracts abroad worth of 3.2 billion dollars in the year 2003, adding that the target was to sign contracts worth of 5 billion dollars this year. Tuzmen noted that Russia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Sudan and other Middle East and Balkan countries had significant business potential for Turkish contractors.
Noting that the sector undertook 700 million dollars of project in African market last year, Tuzmen said that the target was 1.5 billion dollars this year. Tuzmen said that a new page was opened with Libya, adding that Turkish contractors were entering the Libyan construction market again. Tuzmen said that the construction sector was also an initiator of exports and it also had a positive effect on increasing employment.
