ANKARA - "Everyone should obey and respect the relevant clauses in the constitution and related laws regarding the presidential election. Especially the parliament will act in accordance with the constitutional and legal requirements," said State Minister and Deputy Premier Abdullatif Sener on Sunday.
Partaking in a live TV program on NTV channel, Sener said that the government had a realistic approach following the recent statement by Turkish General Staff.
Sener indicated that General Staff`s statement and government`s reply to it comprised of the same remarks in essence; however, there were differences in mutual perceptions.
Underscoring that the government was trying to carry out everything within the limits of the state of law and basic sensitivities, Sener said incidents like the ones mentioned in General Staff`s statement might take place at some places and necessary actions were taken regarding them.
Commenting on the latest developments regarding the presidential election, Sener said, "at the moment, we are waiting for the decision of the Constitutional Court. I believe, a result in accordance with the spirit of the constitution will be taken".
Upon a question on the early election, Sener noted, "according to my opinion, the election can be held after the presidential election, at an early date like August".
Replying to a question on the demonstrations held in capital Ankara recently and in Istanbul`s Caglayan square today, Sener stated that people could gather and express their demands in democratic countries.
"These images of demonstration are in accordance with the rules of democracy," said Sener and added, "everybody should think what those people are demanding and how the developments should be evaluated".
