Ertepinar On Attempted Attack On Yok Chairman Tezic

ANKARA - "Sometimes there are strong reactions against the stance, views and remarks of Higher Education Board (YOK) on some specific matters. However, it is obvious that this time a person pushed his view too far like attempting to kill a person rather than a reaction," YOK Deputy Chairman Aybar Ertepinar said on Wednesday.
Briefing the journalists about the attempted attack on YOK Chairman Prof. Dr. Erdogan Tezic, Ertepinar said the assailant who came in front of YOK HQ threatened the official at the entrance of the building with a gun, cut the telephone connection in the sentry box and asked where Tezic`s room was. "He started to escape when he saw the extent of security measures," Ertepinar noted.
"The security officials pursued the man who escaped throwing his jacket. The assailant fired two shots to the security officials while escaping," he noted.
Ertepinar said the assailant later seized a car forcefully and later got in a taxi and escaped, noting that, "drivers of the two vehicles gave their testimonies. Nobody was injured in the incident. Necessary investigation is underway."
Responding to the questions of reporters Ertepinar said security measures were increased after threats against Tezic last year.
It was also reported that shots from security cameras are being examined to assess the identity of the assailant.
On the other hand senior Turkish executives strongly condemned the attempted attack.
