ANKARA - President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Friday that Cyprus issue was a big wound and its treatment could last long.
Denktas replied to questions of reporters when he was leaving the hotel where he stayed in Ankara.
Stating that assessments whether or not they would go to New York still continued, Denktas said that if press had assumed a different attitude, they would have been on a better point.
''Cyprus issue has been continuing for 40 years. Greek Cypriot side has been acting unjustly for 40 years and it seized our rights. No one talks about harm that Greek Cypriot side made to us. But, a big excitement took place on one day to solve Cyprus issue,'' he noted.
Denktas said that Cyprus issue was a big wound and its cure could last long and stated that Turkish Cypriot people would do their utmost to reach a result by not allowing their rights to be seized.
Stating that he reproached press for forgetting Cyprus issue for years, he said that the press acted unilaterally.
