MELBOURNE - Many Turks living in Australia attended commemorative ceremonies and marches held in Melbourne and Sydney, on the occasion of the 92nd anniversary of the Battle of Canakkale.
Ramazan Altintas, chairman of the Turkish branch of the Victoria Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL), stated that they took initiatives to erect an "Ataturk Monument" in Melbourne.
"The monument would be inaugurated in 2015, on the 100th anniversary of ANZAC ceremonies," Altintas said.
He also indicated that the monument might be placed either at a park located in front of the Turkish Consulate General in the city or at another garden where the ANZAC monument of "Shrine of Remembrance" was erected previously.
