Türkiye's television industry moved toward a unified digital infrastructure on Tuesday, as Anten Corp., a joint company created to consolidate the country's broadcast transmitter operations under a single roof, convened its inaugural executive board meeting.
Board chairman Nuri Colakoglu, representing Star TV, said the company plans to launch digital television service in 13 major cities within the next six months, with a phased extension to smaller markets to follow.
The board's opening session produced two key decisions: a plan to issue a public tender for a shared antenna system, and authorization to begin preliminary work on tower construction across the country. Istanbul, the largest market, is designated to receive five large transmitter towers.
The executive board brings together representatives from a broad cross-section of the broadcast sector, including the Transportation Ministry, public broadcaster TRT, and six private networks: Kanal D, Show TV, ATV, Star TV, NTV, Kanal 7, and STV.
