WASHINGTON - U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of a sale to Turkish Naval Forces of 100 MK-54 Lightweight All-Up-Round Warshot Torpedoes, as well as associated equipment and services.
DSCA also stated that the total value could be as high as 105 million USD.
It was stated that Pentagon notified the Congress last Thursday, and if Congress does not object within two weeks, the sale would be approved automatically.
Turkey intends to use MK-54 torpedo in Class Ship Frigates, SH 70B Sea Hawk helicopters and Sea-Patrol aircraft.
DSCA stated that Turkey is a political and economic power in Europe and eastern Mediterranean, and a partner of the United States in ensuring peace and stability in those regions.
DSCA also stressed that Turkish Naval Forces has significant experience with modern weapon systems, and noted that the sale will not adversely affect the efforts to encourage a negotiated settlement of the Cyprus question.
