Gul Visits Independent MPs

ANKARA - Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul, who was named as the Justice & Development Party`s (AKP) candidate for presidential election, paid visits to six independent MPs.
Gul met independent MPs Hakki Akalin, Fuat Gecen, Ulku Guney, Ersoy Bulut, Mustafa Sayar and Suleyman Bolunmez, and asked them to support his candidacy.
Following his meeting with Gul, Akalin said that he would first hold talks with the opposition parties and some non-governmental organizations.
Gecen said that Gul was one of the best candidates from the AKP. He added that he did not decide whether or not to attend the voting.
On the other hand, Guney said, "Mr. Gul is a modest person. He is also an experienced politician. I believe that his candidacy will receive support."
Meanwhile, Bulut, Sayar and Bolunmez decided to act together about the presidential election.
Following the meetings, Gul told reporters, "a presidential candidate pays visits to MPs for the first time in the history of Turkey. I visited the Republican People`s Party (CHP) and the Motherland Party (ANAVATAN) earlier in the day. I will hold talks with the other political parties tomorrow. I will respect their decision."
