HERE ARE TWO PASSPORTS THEY GOT RID OF
Financial police handed over Jordanian passports of Uzan brothers and the Official Gazette about those passports to Sisli Chief Prosecutor's Office. Cem Uzan applied for Jordanian citizenship in line with Arabian style, that is adding his father's name to his name. Citizenships of Uzan brothers were registered in the Jordanian Official Gazette on September 8, 1999. When news about their Jordanian citizenship were published, the Uzans asked Jordan to give them a document saying that ''Uzans were not the citizens of Jordan.''

COMPROMISE IN CRITICAL SUMMIT
Support to resumption of Cyprus talks initiated by United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General Kofi Annan came out of the critical Cyprus Summit in Ankara. Following the meeting among Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas, TRNC Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat and TRNC Foreign Minister Serdar Denktas, a statement was issued saying, ''Turkey and TRNC have agreed to support efforts of the U.N. Secretary General.''

RESCUE CRISIS
Voluntary search and rescue team AKUT left the spot of the collapsed building in central Konya province protesting efforts to drill the rubble by work machines. Gendarme teams say that it was a right method. Disagreement occurred among search and rescue teams who joined relief efforts in Konya. AKUT's official in Ankara Hakan Korkut, who went to Konya with a four-member team, claimed that lives of people who could hardly breathe under debris were endangered by using work machines in the rubble. Korkut said that they were leaving the scene since they wanted to react to the move to use work machines in the debris too early.

TWO CONCERNS OF DENKTAS
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas said, ''if Annan fills in the blanks on which agreement has not reached, our possibility of bargaining against the Greek Cypriots will reduce. Referendum is inconvenient.'' In the critical Cyprus summit which was held in Ankara and which lasted two hours, TRNC President Denktas said, ''we will tell Annan about principles around which talks can be resumed. We are waiting at the moment. We expect Annan to take action.''

MOLE WITH A SALARY
It has been revealed that Urfi Cetinkaya, the head of drug smuggling, was giving 5 thousand U.S. dollars a month to ''telephone-tapping'' in the Narcotic Department. How Cetinkaya, the suspect of the 507 kg heroin case, was leaking out information from the police has been revealed. In accordance with the indictment of the prosecutor, Cetinkaya was learning everything through policeman Hasan Cuter. Cuter, who is working in the ''technical pursuit'' in the Narcotic Department, was informing the members of the gangs about which telephone numbers were being tapped instead of tapping the telephone calls of the smugglers. He was informing the members of the gangs about when police would stage an operation.

TRAFFIC SPEEDS UP
Cyprus talks will resume on February 15. U.S. State Secretary Colin Powell promises United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General Kofi Annan to do his best for Cyprus issue. Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou is determined to start efforts to solve Cyprus issue immediately. U.S. State Department says that Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan had showed sincere will.

''CONDITION'' PROBLEM
Turkish and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) delegations headed by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and TRNC President Rauf Denktas met in Ankara. Participants could not adopt a common view about how they would respond to conditions put forward by United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General to resume Cyprus talks. Denktas warned that automatic referendum and the move of Annan to fill in the blanks would reduce bargaining possibility of Turkish side. TRNC Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat said that they would start Cyprus talks process with a single view but there were differences of opinion at the moment.

ANNAN SAYS HE WILL CONTACT WITH DENKTAS IMMEDIATELY
United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General Kofi Annan, who said that he would decide on the date to resume Cyprus talks in a few days, noted that he would contact Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas immediately. Annan said that they did not have much time, adding that they should hurry if they had time till May 1.

SURPRISE NAME IN CYPRUS: GROSSMAN
If Cyprus talks are resumed, State Department Undersecretary for Political Affairs Marc Grossman will take a seat at the table most probably. European Union (EU) Commissioner for enlargement Guenter Verheugen can also be invited to talks to represent EU. If Cyprus talks are resumed, Grossman will sit at the table as observer. This decision became final during United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General Kofi Annan's meetings with U.S. State Secretary Colin Powell and U.S. President George Bush. Circles believe that Annan's meeting with Bush has been effective in his decision to call the sides to resume talks. Bush, who told Annan that ''he was convinced of sincerity of the Turks'', referred to his meeting with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In this case, Annan will make a bilateral or tripartite invitation to Turkish side, but invite only the leader of prime minister of the Greek Cypriots. Annan, who considers Turkey's EU process, may appoint Verheugen or his aide as observer.

HOPES FADING
Hopes that a person can be rescued alive under the rubble of the collapsed building in central Konya province are fading. Twenty-seven people lost their lives while 30 others were injured in the building which collapsed in Konya. Officials think that there are still 60 people under the debris. Contractors of the building named Ismail Canlier and Ali Vedat Kaya were captured.

WE CAN GIVE TERRITORY
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas supports Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Denktas supported Erdogan, who said during his visit to the United States that ''Turkish side can make concessions of territory if conditions emerge in Cyprus.'' This statement has been criticized harshly by the opposition in Turkey. Denktas said that TRNC could make concession of territory which would prevent 100 thousand Turkish Cypriots from being migrants.

ESCAPE FROM PUBLIC SECTOR
Account experts and auditors who work for 1.5 billion Turkish liras (TL) in the public sector are transferred to private sector with a salary of 10 billion TL. The public expert cavity exceeds 7 thousand.

WORLD BANK QUAKE LOAN USED IMPROPERLY
World Bank released seven million U.S. dollars of loan for Turkey after the devastating Marmara and Duzce earthquakes to be used in projects which would employ quake survivors. But, the loan was used improperly. Projects which were put into practice to employ quake survivors employed people other than the quake survivors. Some quake survivors who were registered as working in some of these projects in fact were not employed and were not paid.

STATE-GUARANTEED DWELLINGS UNSTABLE
Internal side of two blocks in collective houses built under state-guarantee in Bozuyuk town of Bilecik province in 1995 totally collapsed. Other blocks could stand on their feet thanks to improvement of the owners of the flats. However, Prime Ministry Collective Housing Administration continues to get installments from the owners of these houses.
