Lagendijk On Gul's Candidacy

BRUSSELS - "A logical and wise decision," Joost Lagendijk, the co-chairman of the Turkey-EU Joint Parliament Commission said on Tuesday while commenting on nomination of Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul as the candidate for president of Justice & Development Party (AKP).
In a written statement, Lagendijk said Gul was a reformist and has many international links, stating that this would be very important in a presidential post.
On the other hand Krisztine Nagy, the Spokesperson of EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn said: "we respect Turkey's democratic constitution and the decision was in the discretion of the Turkish Parliament," while commenting on Gul's nomination.
