92nd Anniversary Of The Battle Of Canakkale"

GELIBOLU - An international ceremony was held at the Martyrs Memorial in Gelibolu peninsula of Canakkale, on occasion of the 92nd anniversary of the Battle of Canakkale.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from the countries which participated in the battle such as Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand Winston Peters, Australian Minister for Defense Brendan Nelson, Chief of Navy of New Zealand Rear Admiral David Ledson, and Turkish Culture & Tourism Minister Atilla Koc, Canakkale Governor Orhan Kirli and Turkish 1st Army Commander Gen. Fethi Tuncel.
After a wreath was laid at the Martyrs Memorial on behalf of Turkey, New Zealand, Australia, Britain, France, Canada, Germany, India, South Africa, Ireland and Pakistan, participants observed a minute of silence.
Delivering a speech on behalf of Turkish Armed Forces, Staff Lieutenant Colonel Taner Uysal stated that the Battle of Canakkale was an important clash that changed the stream of history.
Noting that Turkey had always had a special place for New Zealand, Winston Peters, Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, said there were deep ties between the two countries.
Moreover, Australian Minister for Defense Brendan Nelson expressed that strong friendship ties were formed between Turkey and Australia after the battle.

Meanwhile, Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Atilla Koc stated that "A strong belief, a great love for the country and a passion for freedom lie beneath such a legendary victory," Koc added.
Within the framework of the celebrations, another ceremony will be held at the "Anzac Bay" tomorrow. The participants will also pay visits to the Australian and New Zealander Monuments.
