ANKARA - Turkey has stated that it had been monitoring the recent attacks in Iraq with profound sorrow and concern, and called on all sections of Iraqi people to act with common-sense.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Namik Tan said on Saturday, ''we have been monitoring recent attacks targeting various sections of Iraqi people and the coalition forces with profound sorrow and serious concern. Saturday's twin suicide bombings in Irbil coincided with Feast of Sacrifice, which is considered a peace and friendship period of whole Islam world. This coincidence added our sorrow. Like Iraqi people, Turkey wants settlement of social peace, security, stability and tranquillity in Iraq as soon as possible.''
Tan called on all sections of Iraqi people to act with common sense.
''We invite all sections of Iraqi people not to be deceived by those who aim at giving rise to acts of violence in Iraq,'' he said.
Tan noted that they had conveyed their condolences to Iraqi Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Patriotic Union of Iraqi Kurdistan (PUK) and Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITC).
At least 56 people were killed and many others were injured in the twin suicide bombings in Irbil city of Iraq.
