NEW YORK - Turkey has taken good mark from finance circles in the United States.
Representatives of leading financial organizations with whom Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met during his visit to the United States said that they had good impressions about economic and political situation of Turkey.
Oner Ayan, who is working as an administrator in American investment organization Raymond James, told A.A correspondent that representatives of investment organizations had positive impressions about Turkey during their meeting with Prime Minister Erdogan in New York.
Underlining that CEOs of leading finance organizations including; UBS, Morgan Stanley, CitiGroups and Merrill Lynch had a meeting with Erdogan in New York, Ayan said that those representatives were pleased with Turkey's economic performance in 2003 and expressed their expectation that it would also continue in 2004.
Ayan quoted Erdogan as saying ''we will not sacrifice economy for populist policies and we will do our utmost in fight against terrorism'' as he replied questions of representatives of finance circles in the meeting.
Meanwhile, sources said that some representatives who had high investment portfolio launched some initiatives to meet with State Minister Ali Babacan who accompanied Erdogan during his visit to the United States and stated that those investors monitored political developments in Turkey and attached great importance to stability of Turkey.
Investment analysts in New York said that good atmosphere in American finance organizations was not expected to reflect to investments in Turkey in short term.
Experts said that Turkey should take some measures especially in tax and legal fields and produce solutions which encouraged and facilitated investments in the country.
Stating that Turkish government was working as a technocrat and taking successful steps in settlement of economic stability, experts underlined that a single political party's being on power was also a factor which facilitated solutions.
Investment experts said that they would monitor local elections which would be held in Turkey on March 28 due to the government's remarks on populist policy.
