ANKARA - Presidential Chief Advisor for Foreign Affairs Sermet Atacanli said on Friday that President Ahmet Necdet Sezer would make necessary contribution to the process toward December 2004 when a decision would be taken on Turkey's European Union (EU) membership negotiations.
Atacanli spoke at a press briefing at the Cankaya Presidential Palace.
When asked whether or not President Sezer would have a special meeting program on the issue of Turkey's getting a negotiation date from EU in December 2004, Atacanli said, ''December 2004 is a very important date. It is a cornerstone of Turkey's EU membership process which has been continuing for a long time. Our expectation is clear. All our effort is for Turkey to be given a negotiation date. Mr. President will also make necessary contribution to the process.''
