CUMHURIYET- President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, during his speech at the War Academy last week, said that the Republic faces a threat and that transformation of moderate Islam to radical Islam is inevitable. One day before, the Chief of General Staff also stated that he hoped that someone who is loyal to the principles of the Republic, not just in words but also in essence, would be elected president. Furthermore, a Republic Rally in Ankara on Saturday was a strong warning to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan against his presidency.
Our nation is not sleeping, and not being easily slept! All efforts of Erdogan, Gul and Arinc are in vain! Turkey's all citizens have understood that Republic of Ataturk is in danger. There is no one who hasn't known and understood the real intent of the certain circles that are against the secular Republic and principles of a modern civilization, after seizing Cankaya and then the government...
The aim is to pull the secular, populist and nationalist Turkey first to a moderate, then a radical Islam Republican, in other words to rule the country by a union of certain sects.
Before leaving Cankaya, President Sezer implemented an important duty by shedding light on the developments while addressing the young staff of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK): `Whether it is moderate or radical, adjoining of theocracy and democracy is an approach against history and science. Moderate Islam's transform to radical Islam is inevitable.'

Yes, a "civilian coup" is needed and political parties loyal to Ataturk's revolutions have a great responsibility to make it real.
