STRASBOURG - Murat Mercan, Justice and Development Party (AK Party) parliamentarian and chairperson of Turkish delegation in the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (COEPA), has prepared Europe's report on fight against terrorism.
COEPA has demanded that a comprehensive convention should be prepared on fight against terrorism without losing any time.
The report prepared by Mercan and entitled ''terrorism: a threat to democracies'' was adopted in Parliamentary Assembly session on Thursday.
The resolution wanted the convention to cover important issues like exchange of information among member countries, extradition of criminals, protection of witnesses, meeting losses of the injured parties, and freezing financial sources of terrorist organizations.
The resolution adopted in the session called on member countries to impose sanctions especially economic sanctions on countries backing terrorism and sheltering terrorists.
Asking member countries to defend improvement of human rights and principle of state of law in foreign relations, the resolution stressed that nobody should tolerate despotic countries for economic and strategic interests.
