LEFKOSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat said on Thursday that it might be possible to resume Cyprus talks and reach a solution preserving rights of Turkish Cypriots as long as that momentum continued.
Talat, who received Turkish Ambassador to TRNC Hayati Guven, said that he was following Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's meetings in the United States.
''Everything is on the right track,'' Talat said.
Talat noted that the initiative launched by Turkey and TRNC to solve Cyprus issue would be effective in reaching a solution.
''No result has been reached yet, but some initiatives have been launched. U.S. State Secretary Colin Powell has been charged to help the process,'' Talat said.
Recalling that United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General Kofi Annan reiterated the conditions on Wednesday, Talat said that meeting those conditions was still an item of agenda.
Talat noted that sides should evaluate every kind of initiative which would contribute to a settlement.
''I think it may be possible to resume talks and reach a solution preserving interests of Turkish Cypriots as long as this momentum continues. Therefore, we support Turkey's initiatives in the U.N. and United States which are launched in cooperation with us,'' Talat added.
