IZMIR - Izmir Mayor Aziz Kocaoglu indicated that the trade volume between Turkey and Spain should be increased, adding that Aegean city of Izmir was an attractive centre for Spanish investors.
Meeting Spanish Ambassador to Turkey Luis Filipe Fernandez De La Pena at his office in Izmir, Kocaoglu said that endeavors of Turkey and Spain within the framework of the "Alliance of Civilizations"" initiative, had remarkable repercussions all over the world.
Stressing that Turkey and Spain had many common points stemming from their commercial activities and interaction in the Mediterranean, Kocaoglu said that the trade volume of 7 billion USD between the two countries should be increased.
During the talks, Kocaoglu also asked for De La Pena's support for Izmir's candidacy to host EXPO 2015.
Meanwhile, De La Pena stated that Izmir's EXPO 2015 candidacy, which was an incident that gathered all the residents of the city together, was a major step regarding the city's future.
