ANKARA - Turkey`s 11th president will be elected in May. The timetable for the presidential election will start on April 16th, a month before the end of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer`s term in office on May 16th.
The election process will be completed within 30 days.
During the first ten days of the process, candidates to run in the election will be announced.
The election will be held during the remaining 20 days.
During the first two rounds of the election, two-thirds (362) of total number (550) of MPs is required.
If this number of votes cannot be reached, the absolute majority (276) of total number of MPs will be required in the third round.
If the absolute majority cannot be reached, two of the candidates who get the highest number of votes, will attend the fourth round in which the candidate who wins the most of the votes, will become the next president.
