IZMIR - Aegean Exporter Unions (EIB) announced that the total amount of exports from the region in the first quarter of 2007 has been 1.5 billion USD.
219 million USD of these exports has been made to the U.S.
According to a written statement by EIB, Aegean Tobacco Exporters Union has exported 75 million USD worth of products to the U.S. and tobacco sector tops the list with the highest amount of export to the country. Metal and olive oil sector products follow tobacco in the list.
On the other hand, Germany ranked second among the countries to which EIB makes highest amount of exports, with 20 percent increase, reaching a total amount of 165 millon USD. Italy`s rank dropped one step to the third place due to decrease in olive oil exports to the country.
There has been 47 percent increase in EIB`s exports to United Kingdom, reaching 113 million USD. Exports to People`s Republic of China has shown a remarkable change in 2007, increasing 176 percent (11 million USD) in the first quarter. Exports to Saudi Arabia has also increased as much as 161 percent, and reached 25 million USD in the same period.
There has been a decrease in exports of EIB to some countries, such as Iraq, Syria, Morocco and Libya.
