ANKARA - Turkey`s cement production rose 10 percent in 2006, reaching a record amount of 47.5 million tons.
According to the data by Turkey Cement Producers Union, cement production has increased 10 percent in 2006 whereas cement exports dropped 27 percent, mainly due to increase in domestic demand.
Last year 41.6 million tons of the 47.5 million ton cement, produced in Turkey has been consumed in domestic markets.
Total amount of production was 42.7 million tons in 2005, of which 7.7 million ton was exported.

-MARMARA IS THE LEADER IN PRODUCTION-

Last year a major portion of the cement production took place in factories in Marmara region (13.8 million tons). Central Anatolia, Mediterranean and Aegean regions follow Marmara in the list.
