ISTANBUL - Turkish State Minister and Chief Negotiator for EU Talks Ali Babacan said Sunday that they would start a project for the third airport in Istanbul.
Taking the floor at the Pacific Summit organized by Confederation of Turkish Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON), Babacan said Istanbul has been an important transportation hub in its region.
"Today, Istanbul is a connection for flights to Central Asia and Middle East. We will initiate a project for the third airport in Istanbul. We have two airports in Istanbul now, but a third one is essential for both Turkey and Istanbul," Babacan said.
Commenting on structural reforms realized in Turkey, Babacan said Turkey is among the top developing countries regarding foreign capital inflow.
"Turkey is located in a region where major global problems exist. But Turkey is a symbol of stability with its political and economic structure, and its EU perspective. It also offers great opportunities for foreign businessmen with its young population and wide market," he added.
