BURSA - "We are taking all the necessary steps," said Foreign Minister and Deputy Premier Abdullah Gul regarding the kidnapping of two Turkish engineers in Nigeria, on Saturday.
Gul replied questions regarding the kidnapping of two engineers in his visit to Justice and Development Party (AKP) provincial headquarters in northwestern city of Bursa.
Gul said Turkish Embassy in Nigerian capital Abuja is closely following the event and continued, "unfortunately two of our engineers have been kidnapped. Our ambassador there informed us immediately. We will do whatever we can. We have been informed from the first minutes on, and we are taking all the necessary steps right now."
Earlier today, Nigerian police said gunmen kidnapped two Turkish engineers from their car in Port Harcourt in Nigeria's oil-producing Niger Delta.
In an earlier statement by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is said that the kidnapping is not thought to be against Turkish citizens. Turkish engineers are believed to be kidnapped for ransom.
