KAYSERI - Turkish Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul said Turkey's M-60 tanks are among world's best and highest-performance tanks after the ongoing modernization process.
Gonul, who is currently in central city of Kayseri, told reporters that he would examine modernization process of M-60 tanks at Aspilsan company.
"These 170 tanks are being modernized by Israeli technology. These tanks are now among best and highest-performance tanks in the world. First prototype of these tanks were produced in Israel and it was tested in different regions of Turkey. It was successful at hottest and coldest weather conditions, plus highest altitudes," Gonul said.
Upon a question on finalization of tender process of assault and tactical reconnaissance (ATAK) helicopter project, Gonul said the process was finalised last Friday after a 12-year-period.
"The main undertaker of the project will be Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) and the subcontractor will be Agusto/Westland. So, for the first time, one of the world's most advanced assault helicopters will be produced in Turkey," he added.
