ANKARA - Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu separately met Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul in Ankara on Friday.
Ihsanoglu`s all meetings were closed to the press.
Sources said that OIC SG Ihsanoglu`s visit to Ankara aims to gain support of Turkey in regard to the decisions that will be made during the OIC foreign ministerial meeting to be held in Pakistani capital of Islamabad on May 15th.
OIC sources told the A.A correspondent that several matters including OIC`s 10-year action plan and amendments to the organization`s regulation will be discussed during the foreign ministerial meeting. Sources stressed, "in this respect the support of Turkey (as a key country in OIC) is needed for the decisions to be made during the mentioned meeting."
Ihsanoglu is also expected to proceed to Iran to hold similar talks.
Sources stated that senior officials are scheduled to convene in Jeddah from April 14th to 16th to determine the issues which will top the agenda of OIC foreign ministerial meeting to be held in Islamabad.
