MARDIN - Finnish Ambassadress to Turkey Maria Serenius, who paid a visit to southeastern city of Mardin, stated that the city`s historical and cultural structure attracted her attention and thus, she planned a 5-day visit to Mardin together with an accompanying delegation.
Visiting Mardin Governor Mehmet Kiliclar at his office, Serenius noted that, prior to her assignment as an ambassador to Turkey, she worked as the Director General for Africa and Middle East at the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, besides, Finland was carrying out EU`s term presidency at the time of her appointment to Ankara.
Stressing that she faced some difficulties during her duty in Turkey, Serenius asked Kiliclar his opinions regarding Turkey`s EU membership.
Upon such question, Kiliclar said that Turkey was not at "a bad point" in its EU process and although it faced some troubles, there were positive developments regarding the issue.
"EU can see Turkey`s determination more clearly, if it takes into consideration the progress achieved by the country so far," Kiliclar indicated.
Meanwhile, Serenius stated that she would proceed to southeastern city of Batman, after completing her talks in Mardin.
