IZMIR - Doga (Nature) Association of Turkey annually counts the number of water birds present in Turkey, a country described as a paradise for water birds by many experts.
According to the most recent counts, there are 95 species of water birds in Turkey. The total population of them is estimated to be at around 1,629,000.
The Beysehir Lake hosts the biggest number of water birds -- around 263,000. Water birds population in Egirdir Lake reaches 148,000, while there are 122,000 birds in Burdur Lake .
The number of water birds showed a decline due to warm and dry winter season, experts said.
