-A.A HAS DONE ITS BEST TO MEET THE DEMAND OF TURKISH PRESS IN EVERY PERIOD, DG BENGI
ANKARA - "The Anadolu Agency (A.A), which will celebrate its 87th anniversary tomorrow, has always done its best to meet the need of news reports of Turkish press as well as to inform people correctly in every period," said A.A Executive Board President & Director General Hilmi Bengi who attended a program on TRT-2 channel on Thursday.
Upon a question, Bengi noted that A.A was founded to inform people both in Turkey and abroad with the most correct news, adding that there is not any problem in the agency. "We are free journalists," he said.
When asked how A.A employs personnel, Bengi said that last year two examinations were held and 40 new personnel were employed in the A.A.
Regarding the celebration of 87th anniversary of A.A, Bengi said that A.A staff will visit the mausoleum of Ataturk at 10.15 a.m. tomorrow, and an exhibition of 70 photographs taken by A.A photo-journalists between 1970 and 1980 will be opened at the A.A Art Gallery at 6.00 p.m. He added that a reception will be held following the inauguration of the exhibition.
The exhibition is composed of pictures chosen from A.A's archives fastidiously to reflect Turkey's recent past.
Portraits of leading figures of Turkish political life such as Turkey's 2nd President Ismet Inonu, 9th President Suleyman Demirel, former Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit and Necmettin Erbakan, as well as deceased leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Alparslan Turkes, are among the photos to be on display.
Pictures of several remarkable events such as the train crash in Ankara's Behicbey Station, the devastating earthquake in Bingol, ASALA's bloody attack at Ankara's Esenboga Airport are also included in the exhibition which will remain open till April 6th.
