ANKARA - Turkey has welcomed that the presidential elections were held in Mauritania on March 11th and 25th in a transparent and democratic environment.
Releasing a statement on Thursday, Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Turkey's pleasure with the 19-month successful democracy transition period led by the Military Council for Justice and Democracy (CMDJ) which came to power in Mauritania on August 3rd, 2005.
"We consider the presidential elections in Mauritania a sign of Mauritanian people's and government's loyalty to democracy and modern values. Turkey believes that its political and economic relations will Mauritania will boost in this new period," the Ministry added.
