ANKARA - The 22nd session of the Standing Conference of European Ministers of Education organised by the members of the Council of Europe will be held between May 3rd-5th in Istanbul.
According to Turkish Ministry of Education sources, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to attend the meeting and deliver a speech at the official opening day May 4th.
The topic of the conference will be "the role of education policies in the formation of a more humanistic and embracing Europe".
At the standing conferences, the European ministers of education discuss the projects and activities that are carried out and make studies regarding the upcoming term.
The conference is held in different countries every 3 to 4 years. At the previous conference held in Athens in 2003 it was decided that the next conference would be held in Istanbul. The last standing conference Turkey hosted was the 16th conference in 1989 in Istanbul.
