ANKARA - "Turkey welcomed release of 15 British sailors by Iran," Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.
Releasing a statement, the ministry noted that Turkey, which held several friendly and constructive talks with Iran and Britain to prevent unfavorable developments in regard to the matter, considers the release of British sailors an important step to reduce tension in the region.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced today that his government would release the 15 detained British sailors.
