N Cyprus President Rejects Any Greek Cypriot Control Over Their Economy

ANKARA - President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) refuted on Wednesday any Greek Cypriot control over economic activities in the north of the divided island.
"An economy under the consent or management of the Greek Cypriot side is neither attractive nor acceptable for the Turkish Cypriots," TRNC President Mehmet Ali Talat told a conference in Ankara`s Middle East Technical University.
"The Turkish Cypriots will run their own economy and economic management by themselves," he added.
Talat also rejected an economic package recently proposed by the Greek Cypriot administration which allowed for Turkish Cypriot exports in certain goods to the south of the island saying that the proposal only aimed at averting European Union efforts to establish direct trade ties with the TRNC.
The package "aims at diverting the attention and killing the direct trade regulation," he said.
Talat also welcomed a possibility of opening a Turkish Cypriot trade office in Kuwait, adding that it could be a major support for TRNC`s economy.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan his Kuwaiti counterpart Nasir Al-Muhammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as saying on Wednesday that the TRNC could open a trade office in Kuwait.
