ANKARA - A consultation meeting will take place in Ankara on February 20 with the participation of Turkey's ambassadors to European Union (EU) member and candidate countries.
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul will chair the meeting.
Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Wednesday and said, ''one of the essential targets of the government in foreign policy is to win a date to start full membership negotiations between Turkey and the EU at the EU summit in December 2004.'' The statement noted that 2004 was a year of turning point in this respect.
The statement said, ''consultation meetings were held between December 25-26 with the participation of Prime Minister and Foreign Ministry Undersecretary and Turkey's ambassadors to EU member countries and other centers aiming to discuss Turkish-EU relations by all means.''
The statement said, ''this time a similar consultation meeting will take place under the leadership of the Foreign Minister on February 20, 2004.''
