LEFKOSA - "We aim to reach an economic structure that makes production at European Union (EU) standards and shares the income fairly", said Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Economy and Tourism Minister Enver Ozturk on Wednesday.
Turkish State Minister and Deputy Premier Abdullatif Sener and Ozturk signed "Economic Program and Mutual Agreement protocol" prepared in the framework of an Economic Cooperation Protocol signed in 2006 between Turkey and TRNC.
Ozturk explained the three years long economic program, which will cover 2007-2009 period by saying, "the program aims to establish an economic structure that shares its income in a fair way as well as a state structure that embraces rule of law and participatory democracy. In this respect we aim to restructure state, improve education & health services and balance income distribution." TRNC Minister added their target with this program is to achieve sustainable development.
Ozturk said the program enables employment of Turkey and EU grants in a way that suits the country`s long term targets.
He said sectors of tourism, industry, small and middle sized industries would be supported through TRNC Development Bank.
"We envisage comprehensive and concrete arrangements for restructuring the fiscal sector, supporting real sector and restructuring public sector for realizing the above mentioned targets" stated Ozturk.
