LONDON - The British daily Financial Times wrote on Tuesday that the high growth rate of Turkish economy provided the government of PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan with "political ammunition ahead of the general elections in autumn."
Vincent Boland of FT, wrote in his article on Tuesday that "fuelled by political and macroeconomic stability and by unprecedented levels of foreign direct investment", gross domestic product grew by 6.1 per cent in 2006.
Boland underlined that "the presidential and parliamentary elections this year have added an element of political risk to Turkey`s economic prospects."
Stressing that Erdogan`s possible presidency after next month`s presidential ballot could hamper Justice and Development party`s chances in the parliemantary elections in the autumn, Boland said, "there is even speculation that it could lead to a return of the system of coalition governments that have been the source of much of Turkey`s past political instability."
