NEW ERA WITH SYRIA
Turkey`s Fenerbahce soccer team will play a friendly match with Syria`s Al-Ittihad soccer team in Syria. This match will be an important development in regard to the relations between Turkey and Syria. Syrian President Bashar al-Asad and Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan will inaugurate the Olympic Stadium and they will watch the match together. On the other hand, people, who waited for the Fenerbahce at the airport in Aleppo city of Syria, showed great interest in the players yesterday.

GOOD NEWS FROM ECONOMY
Turkey`s export figure soared 19.3 percent, to 8.9 billion USD in March 2007. Turkish Exporters` Assembly (TIM) Chairman Oguz Satici said, "we broke a record in export figures." On the other hand, growth in gross national product was recorded as 6 percent in 2006.

COUNCIL OF STATE LIFTS THE "RED POINT"
The notice issued by Turkish Ministry of Interior, which aims to gather the restaurants & bars where alcoholic beverages are served at certain locations out of the city centre, was rejected by the Council of State.
Council of State stressed in its related decision that such places would be isolated with such a regulation. "Therefore, it is unlawful in terms of content," Council of State commented.

BIG ATTACK FROM HURRIYET
Turkish daily Hurriyet has purchased 67.3 percent of the shares of Trader Media East (TME), a leading company in classified advertising in Eastern Europe and Russia.
Vuslat Dogan Sabanci, chief of the Hurriyet Executive Committee, announced that Hurriyet collected TME`s shares at the London Stock Exchange by paying 336.5 million USD totally. Sabanci also stated that this was the biggest purchase from abroad, performed by a Turkish company.

LIFETIME IMPRISONMENT TO PURSE-SNATCHERS
Three purse-snatchers who ran over Iclal Ulker with a car while getting away after stealing the purse of a chemical engineer in Istanbul were sentenced to life time plus 30 years imprisonment.
The ex-con snatchers Gencay Yolcu, Mehmet Sural, and Yasin Ak who caused the death of Iclal Ulker by dragging her for 230m under their car in 2005 were convicted of homicide and usurpation.

KABUL GUARD DUTY
Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) will undertake the Kabul Regional Command rotating between France, Italy and Turkey under NATO. TSK will assume regional command mission in Kabul on April 7th.

NATIONAL INCOME PER CAPITA: $5.477
Turkish economy broke a new record in regard to the growth figure. Turkish economy grow 6 percent in 2006 (according to the data from Turkish Exporters` Assembly). Last year, Turkey`s GNP reached 399.6 billion and GDP 400.04 billion USD. National income per capita became 5,477 U.S. dollars.

REGULATION ON PLACES SERVING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES CANCELLED
Council of State cancelled the regulation by the Ministry of Interior aiming to move the places serving alcoholic beverages outside the city. Council of State`s decision underlined that the regulation included restrictions that were outside the law and said "because the moving of places serving alcohol outside the city life could come to mean seclusion, it is not in accordance with law."

PREMIER TALKS ALLUSIVELY ON "CANKAYA"
Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be seemingly leading his party during the elections to be held on November 4th.
Erdogan gave clues regarding his candidacy to presidency, during Justice and Development Party`s (AKP) meeting in central city of Eskisehir.
"Let us complete the presidential elections far from sentimentality before November 4th. What will we do intensely after completing that? We will get prepared for general elections. I want all of you to assume a common attitude," Erdogan stressed.

RECORD LEVEL IN GROWTH: 7.3 IN 4 YEARS
State Minister and chief negotiator for EU talks Ali Babacan met reporters after Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK) announced that the growth rate in 2006 was 6 percent.
Looking quite happy, Babacan said, "the economy has been continuously growing for 20 quarters. Consequently, Turkey undersigned a new record."

DOUBLE RECORD IN ECONOMY
While Turkish economy grew by 6 percent in 2006, exports reached the highsest level in March.
The growth in economy was beyond expectations in 2006. Turkish economy beat a record by growing consecutively for the last 20 quarters. Meanwhile, another record came from exports. According to the figures announced by Turkish Exporters` Assembly (TIM), exports in March reached 8.9 billion USD with a 19.3 percent rise, which is the highest monthly level in history.

ERDOGAN: "POLICE IS THE SYMBOL OF SECURITY"
Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Turkish Police Department, which is celebrating the 162th anniversary of its establishment, has always been one of the most reliable institutions for the public.
Erdogan also noted that Police Department was the first institution to call upon in case of emergencies, besides, the department identified itself with "help".

ECONOMY BREAKS RECORDS
Turkey entered the first week of April with good news. The first news came from the Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK). TUIK which made public growth figures for the fourth quarter of 2006 said that growth in gross national product was recorded as 6 percent in 2006. Turkey`s GNP reached 399.6 billion and GDP 400.04 billion USD the same year. On the other hand, State Minister & Chief Negotiator for EU talks Ali Babacan stressed that flow of direct foreign investments into Turkey, which amounted to 1.1 billion USD between 1993 and 2002, go up to 20.2 billion USD last year, noting that this figure amounted to 12 billion USD in the first three months of 2007.

GUL TO VISIT GERMANY
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul will pay a two-day official visit to Germany where he will meet his counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Turkey`s EU accession process and Turkish-German relations will top the agenda of the meeting between Gul and Steinmeier.

A PURSE-SNATCH, THREE LIFE TIME IMPRISONMENTS
Three people who caused the death of Iclal Ulker were sentenced to life time imprisonment. The three accused were sentenced to life time imprisonment by the Kartal district second High Criminal Court for "homicide with the purpose of depredation". The accused were also sentenced to an extra thirty years for depredation.
Gencay Yolcu wanted to snatch the purse of Iclal Ulker (58) on November 11th, 2005 from the car he was seated in. Ulker who did not want to let go of her bag was killed tragically under the car of the convicts.

A MP KILLED IN CAR CRASH
Gaziantep MP, Omer Abusoglu of the Motherland Party was killed in a traffic accident while driving to Ankara with his car. The parliamentary group of the party whose number of seats in the parliament dropped to 19 was thus cancelled.
