KONYA - Iraqi Turkmen Front Consultative Board member Aydin Beyatli said on Tuesday that Kurdish groups broke the promises they had given in the past and revealed their bad intentions by having eye on Kirkuk.
Beyatli told A.A correspondent that Massoud Barzani threatened that they would not approve any decision of Iraqi Governing Council in case Kirkuk was not included in the federation they targeted till March 1.
Stating that representatives of the two Kurdish groups in Iraq, who had participated in a meeting held in Ankara between March 17 and 19, 2003 gave assurances that they definitely did not want independence, Beyatli said, ''Kurdish groups broke their promise and revealed their bad intention by having eyes on Kirkuk.''
Beyatli said, ''efforts are underway to create enmity among Iraqi people. Saddam Hussein had tried it before, but failed. We will not be deceived by this. Structure of Kirkuk is clear. 65 percent of the city is Turkmen and 10-15 percent of it is Kurdish. However, many Kurds were settled in place of the Arabs that were forced to migrate. This creates uneasiness among Turkmens and Kurds living there.''
Beyatli said they would not give up Kirkuk and Mosul, stressing that an election should take place soon, and right of equal representation should be given to all communities forming Iraq.
