BURSA - Total exports of the automotive sector within the first three months of 2007 is up 33.7 percent and reached 4,316m USD, leaving behind the total amount of exports in this sector back in 2001 (which was a mere 3,865m USD).
According to info compiled from Uludag Exporters' Association data passenger cars constituted the majority of the exports with a total value of 1,472m USD followed by auto industry by-products and sale of lorry and trucks.
While the biggest rise was recorded in the category of special purpose motor vehicles, the only categories that were in decline were aero-space vehicles and railway cars.
As one of the driving forces of Turkish economy, Turkish automotive manufacturers exported their products to 152 countries and 14 free trade zones in the said period.
Germany, Italy, France, Britain and Spain were the major countries importing Turkish motor vehicles.
