ANKARA - Ekin Deligoz, MP from German Greens Party, criticized European Union (EU) under German presidency for not inviting Turkey to participate in the celebrations of 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome.
A parliamentary delegation from German Greens Party met members of the EU Adjustment commission at the Turkish Parliament. The meeting was held behind closed doors.
Sources told AA that in the meeting, one of the Turkish MPs reminded that Turkey was not invited to the celebration ceremonies of the foundation of EU. Whereupon Ekin Deligoz and other parliamentarians from Greens Party stressed that not to invite Turkey to participate was a mistake.
Following the meeting Ekin Deligoz, an MP of Turkish descent, said "we as NGOs and parliamentarians of Turkish descent, found a way. If Germany closes the doors to Turkey's membership to EU, we will open the windows. Germany should change its attitude. In order to do this we will bring the issue to the agenda of the parliament and we will intervene."
On the other hand, Deligoz said it was a 'historical mistake' to unilaterally make Greek Cypriot Administration an EU member.
Turkish Parliament's EU Adjustment Committee Chairman Yasar Yakis indicated on his part that they share the views of the Greens Party.
Regarding Cyprus issue, Yakis said the embargoes would not be lifted solely by putting the direct trade regulations into practice. He added, Turkey would only open its ports, if it comes to the conclusion that the embargoes are really lifted.
